Geraldine “Gerri” Mercille
Geraldine Velma Mercille of Old Mines, Missouri was Fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church on Monday, June 14, 2004 at 4:43 PM at the St. Francois Manor at the age of Eighty Years, Nine Months and Eighteen Days.
Gerri was born Monday, August 27, 1923 in Old Mines, Missouri a daughter of the late Edges (Boyer) Politte and Joseph Politte.
Gerri was united in marriage to Aloysius A. “Hoot” Mercille September 3, 1944 in Old Mines, Missouri. Hoot preceded his wife in death on January 8, 1988.
Gerri was a long time member of the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri where she enjoyed singing in the Choir for many years. Gerri and her husband were long time owners and operators of Mercille Store in Old Mines, Missouri. She enjoyed her time working with her husband and raising her children. Gerri loved to spend time working and gardening in her yard. She was always ready to get going to a Bingo game. Gerri looked forward to her frequent trips to Dairy Queen for a Burger and a Malt.
Gerri is survived by her Three Sons, Terry G. Mercille of Old Mines, Missouri, Donald W. Mercille and wife Jane of Valley Park, Missouri and Mike Mercille and wife Mechelle of Farmington, Missouri; One sister, Jeannie Smith and husband Calvin of DeSoto, Missouri; One brother, Marion Politte and wife Helen of DeSoto, Missouri; Seven Grandchildren; Three Great Grandchildren; Four sisters-in-law, Helen Politte of DeSoto, Missouri, Irene Politte of Florissant, Missouri, Veda Politte of Bellevue, Washington and Rachel Politte of Farmington, Missouri; Brother-in-law, Ralph Boyer of Las Vegas, Nevada; God daughters, Doris Bram and Linda Herkenhoff; Special care givers, Jenny, Brickey, Betty and Shirley and by many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Gerri was also preceded in death by Two sisters, Eldern Daugherty and Burnetta Boyer; Five brothers, Williard Politte, Charles Politte, Zeno Politte, Larry Politte and Homer Politte.
Gerri had a great love for her family and always welcomed their visits. Her devotion to people showed by her commitment to help not only those in the Old Mines area, but in the surrounding area.
Gerri was a remarkable lady for her longevity and for the intensity and clarity of focus with which she lived her life. She was a true blessing to all who were privileged to know her.
Visitation was held Tuesday, June 15, 2004 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Wednesday, June 16, 2004 from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Moore Funeral Homes, 105 Clark Street, Potosi, Missouri.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the St. Joachim Catholic Church, Old Mines, Missouri Father Ted Pieper Celebrant. Music was provided by the Church Choir. Serving as Pallbearers were Doug Mercille, Rob Mercille, Kevin Mercille, Greg Politte, Kenny Smith and Gary Politte.
Final Blessings and Burial was in the St. Joachim Catholic Church Cemetery, Old Mines, Missouri. Following the services the family and friends went to the Knights of Columbus Hall for a fellowship luncheon provided by the Old Mines Knights of Columbus Council.
