Robert L. “Bob” Hardy of Irondale, Missouri was born Monday, September 27, 1926 in Cantwell, Missouri a son of the late Cazzie (Hunt) Hardy and Leslie Quince Hardy. Bob departed this life Monday, March 15, 2004 at his home surrounded by the love and care of his wife and family. Bob was Seventy-seven years, Five months and Eighteen days of age.

Bob was united in marriage to Betty Hardy October 2, 1948 in Irondale, Missouri. Bob and Betty were blessed to have Six daughters and Three sons born to the union.

Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-five years Betty Hardy; Six Daughters, Betty Jean “BJ”Maxson and husband Chuck of Park Hills, Missouri, Mildred Elaine Owens of Modesto, California, Melissa Evans of Aledo, Illinois and husband Michael of Overland, Missouri, Sally Addington and husband Roger of Lead, South Dakota, Melody Pirtle of Woodson Terrace, Missouri, Amy Hardy of Irondale, Missouri; Three sons Robert Lee “Bobby” Hardy and wife Brenda of Irondale, Missouri, James “Jimmy” Steven Hardy and wife Kathy of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Thomas Ched Hardy and wife Pamela of Mineral Point, Missouri; One Brother, Heber Hardy and wife Leotha of Potosi, Missouri; Myra Pratt of Bismarck, Missouri; Seventeen Grandchildren; Fifteen Great Grandchildren; Three Sisters-in-law, Alpha Hardy of Basset, Virginia, Betty Hardy of Wappapello, Missouri and Alice Hardy and by many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by Two Sisters, Bessie Lore and Lucille Hardy; Four Brothers, Ched Hardy, Georgie Hardy, Paul Hardy and Jack Hardy.

Bob had served this country in the United States Army being inducted December 29, 1944 and Honorably Discharged April 24, 1946. Bob served as a general carpenter and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and One Overseas Bar.

Bob enjoyed the outdoors and the beauty of mother nature. He loved to till the ground, plant his seeds, nurture the growth of the plants and harvest the fruit of his labor. Bob would sell some of his harvest but was most proud to share them with his family and friends. Bob would always make time to get to the outdoors and fish or trap. He was very proud of his many successful hunts and trapping trips.

Visitation was held Thursday, March 18, 2004 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Friday, March 19, 2004 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Moore Funeral Home, Irondale, Missouri.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 19, 2004 at 1:00 PM at the Moore Memorial Chapel with Reverend Thomas Fortner officiating. Musical selections were “The Old Rugged Cross” by Rick Barnes, “Have Thine Own Way” by Laverne Lore and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” by Rick Barnes and Laverne Lore. Pianist was Beverly McColloch.

Final prayers and Burial was in the Big River Cemetery, Irondale, Missouri. Serving as Pallbearers were Mike Evans, Jeff Evans, Jamie Pirtle, Ryan Hardy, Rob Hardy and Lisa Hardy. In Honor of Bob’s service to this Country, the Missouri Funeral Honors Team and the Washington County VFW Post #6996 provided a Twenty-one Gun salute, Taps and the folding and presentation of the United States Flag.

Services were entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Homes, 104 Oak Street, Potosi, Missouri.
